In the first instance, please contact the Centre for all enquiries about bookings. This will ensure that the course you want delivered can be done on the dates and at the times you require.

You will all be pleased to know that the fees for the school year 2010–2011 are being held at 2009-2010 prices which we hope will be helpful to schools and parents in these financially difficult times.


All our programmes are designed in consultation with yourselves. If you have any particular requests or want us to come and visit your school please contact the Centre. We are always more than willing to help promote your trip or answer any questions.


The bulk of our allocation of spaces takes place in November for the following school year. (Nov 09 for Sept 10 - Aug 11). As such, the earlier you make your booking, the better chance you have of being able to book in for your first choice of dates.


If you are requesting a booking for the 'popular' period, ie September, October, April, May, June and July, would you please give an alternative date as you will appreciate that not all schools can be accommodated at this time. The more flexible you are able to be, the more likely we will be able to fit you into the programme and remember winter can add a whole new experience with some schools always requesting winter weeks due to the very special nature of this experience. When we allocate places priority is given to North Yorkshire schools groups booking for a full week and to the forms that are returned first. It would be appreciated if estimated numbers could be as accurate as possible to ensure the best use of Centre resources.

In order to increase availability, bookings are also taken for weekend or school holiday period courses. School holiday periods include Half terms in February, May and October; 2 weeks at Easter and late July/August. These bookings are handled on a “first come, first served” basis and do not have to be made so far in advance as curriculum time visits. Please contact the Centre for Information and quotations.

Organised groups may also book space on the Centre grounds to camp, usually at weekends or during school holiday periods. However, it should be noted that due to food hygiene regulations, there will be no access to the Centre kitchens, although catering can be organised for your group.

Programmes will be planned jointly by school and Centre staff. We will always do our best to support the school aims and objectives whether personal and social, academic and leisure pursuit or, as often, a combination of these. Courses can be individually tailored to cover many aspects of the National Curriculum.


Transport costs of the party to and from the Centre at the beginning and end of their visit must be borne by the individual organisation, as must the cost of any excursions or visits to museums, swimming pools, etc.School staff driving our buses, usually for evening programmes, must have passed a MiDAS minibus driving test, have a clean licence and four years driving experience. (Unfortunatly the Council is no longer accepting any other minibus qualification).


Some schools may be concerned about the effect of the ‘Rarely Cover’ regulations on staffing residential visits. However, provided visits are planned well in advance, schools should be able to plan appropriate cover. Advice on strategies for planning cover is available from the DCSF and the TDA:

To ensure the Service continues to flourish and to keep any increase of fees to a minimum it is essential that Centres are fully booked for as much of the year as possible.If schools and other users who have made bookings withdraw or dramatically reduce numbers it is very difficult to fill these spaces as most establishments plan residential visits at least a year ahead. Cancellation charges are outlined in the Terms & Conditions on the reverse of the Booking Form.
