River Source To SeaCoastal Formations

Come and observe, sketch and photograph coastal landforms. The development of the features is discussed, introducing the concept of erosion, transportation and an outline of the local geology.

Fossil Studies

Come and study the fine Jurassic fossils found along the nearby coastline. The development of rocks and fossils is discussed, introducing the concept of evolutionary processes and linking this into the local geology.

Rock Pooling

A study of a rock pool as a microhabitat, using investigative techniques to classify what you find. An introduction to marine zonation. Quantitive studies can be used using quadrants and transects.

Seashore Walk

Explore the local seashore, combining historical, geographical and biological field studies along the world famous dinosaur coast.

Stream Survey

Measurements of the physical and living factors are taken at a stream site. Using simple methods you will recognize changes in width, depth, and velocity.

Sweep samples allow the study of freshwater invertebrate diversity to measure water quality.

River Source To Sea

A full day's study of the River Esk, from the moor top down to Whitby Harbour. A variety of investigative techniques are used to chart the development of this river.

Can be combined with canoeing in the harbour, artwork or digital imaging.
