The WGL scheme provides training and assessment for leaders wishing to lead groups in moorland i.e. open, uncultivated, non-mountainous wild country in the UK e.g. rough open land in the North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales and the Dark Peak. The scheme does not cover leadership in the mountain areas of the Lake District, North Wales or Scotland, for which the Mountain Leader Award is appropriate.
