Accolades for young leadership scheme  27/11/2008

A flagship scheme which trains young people from North Yorkshire in outdoor leadership and mentoring skills is celebrating three years of success. The scheme, which is called OP4U and is run jointly by North Yorkshire County Council's Outdoor Education and Youth Services, has trained over 100 young people in leadership skills through outdoor adventure projects. The projects make full use of North Yorkshire County Council's outdoor education centres.  Details >>

Mountaineer Alan Hinkes, the first British man to climb all 14 of the Himalaya's 8,000 metres peaks, including K2 and Everest, has become patron of North Yorkshire County Council's Outdoor Education Service.  19/05/2008

Alan said the course of his life changed when, as a school boy, he was taken to Great Fryupdale near Danby, one of North Yorkshire's four outdoor centres. "I don't think I would have ended up climbing the highest mountains if that hadn't started me off", he said.  Details >>
