Great Fryupdale Outdoor Centre
Site Resources
Great Fryupdale has numerous resources available onsite for our visiting
groups to use.
There is a playground marked out for football and basketball / netball
ring which can be used at any time.
It also benefits from a secure bike store area and ample parking facilities
as well as a on-site payphone.
A plan of the site is shown opposite.
Evening Activities
Great Fryupdale Centre is ideally for exploring the evening and nights
on the moors.
It's rural location ensures that there is very little light pollution,
making the area ideal for astronomical studies.
The Centre is also very fortunate to have brown long-eared bats roosting
in the old schoolhouse eaves (see picture). After dusk they can frequently
be spotted flying around the Centre. There is bat detection equipment
provided at the Centre to ensure that we can hear the bats as they fly.
This can prove very interesting for most groups.
Bat Facts!
