Paddleboarding is an exciting activity that is sure to challenge everyone
We are pleased to say that we are introducing Paddleboarding as a new activity at Bewerley Park. We have just taken delivery of a fleet of great new boards from Sandbanks SUP Style. They are a relatively new UK company but this a relatively new sport too!
What is Paddleboarding?
If you haven’t heard of Paddleboarding before then lets bring you up to speed. Its a board, that you lie, kneel or stand up on and paddle! Like many of the most popular and user friendly boards out there, ours are inflatable. This makes them lightweight yet very durable. Even though the name suggests you stand, most people will start either laying down or kneeling to gain confidence. Once you feel happy (pretty soon for most people) you either kneel or stand up and use a long paddle to propel your board. After that, you will find that this is one of the most fun and engaging ways to explore the natural water environment. It is easier than you think to balance. Our staff will of course coach you through everything you need to know. There are so many challenges, skills and games to learn that we guarantee that there is something for everyone.
The history of kneeling or standing on things that float and moving them with paddles goes back thousands of years but in its modern form Paddleboarding is directly related to the surfing scene in Hawaii and California. Since those early days board design has progressed to make modern inflatable Paddleboards suitable for all sorts of different uses. This includes racing, touring, river-running and even yoga!
We will be offering Paddleboarding as an activity mainly during the warmer months due to the fact that most beginners get a little wet! There is no age limit to this, indeed some of our staff have had their own kids as young as 3 out on the boards already!
If you would like to add this to your Outdoor Learning residential or day courses then please give us a call.
