NYOLS Covid 19 Statement 17/03/2020

Dear Schools/groups

As you are all probably aware, the UK Government has stepped up its response to the public in relation to the outbreak of Covid-19, Coronavirus. Last night the prime minister announced safety measures to try and contain the spread of the virus and advised amongst other things that we do not undertake unessential travel and avoid mass gatherings.

The impact of these measures is hard hitting for North Yorkshires Outdoor Learning Service. We want to do all we can to help delay the spread and help the nation to contain the virus. It is to this end with guidance from North Yorkshire County Council we have been directed to cancel any further bookings to either of our centres, Bewerley Park Centre and East Barnby, until Easter. We are updated daily by the Government and North Yorkshire County Council regarding the spread and containment of the virus and will continue to follow all official advice received and review our risk assessments for all schools and groups due to visit.

We can only apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment this will cause. We currently do not know the impact that the changing situation will have on the future, and we are this point only looking as far as Easter. We will be in touch when we know more and further guidance is given to us as part of North Yorkshire County Council.

If you would like further information on the councils current guidance please use the following link https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/coronavirus-advice-and-inform…

We will endeavour wherever possible to move courses into other weeks. As you can probably appreciate this will be difficult to please everyone given the amount of schools that we need to move. Please try and understand that we do not want the children to miss out. The importance of an outdoor adventurous residential is something we are passionate about. It is a crucial part of their learning and time in school and as mentioned we hope that we can reschedule their visit to later in the year. If schools would like to get in touch to talk about these changes and cancelations, please do not hesitate to email either centre and we will get back to you as soon as it is possible.

We are mindful that some parents and schools may be concerned regarding monies that have been paid and we will honour what we previously stated; that if we have to cancel your course completely and we cannot move you into another slot then refunds will be issued. However, if we can reschedule your residential or day trip we will do so. Your support at this time means a lot to us and is vital for the Outdoor Learning Service in the future.

Our thoughts are with you and the families you support at this difficult and unusual time. Stay safe and we hope to see you in the future.

Kind regards,
